The Atlantis space shuttle successfully launched on Friday for the last time and is now soaring up toward the International Space Station for a 12-day charge that will convey NASA’s 30-year shuttle program to an end.
Atlantis set off at 11:29am Eastern time after a short delay about the 30-second mark to make sure among the constructions near the shuttle was fullly retracted. Several minutes after release, it passed orbit and is now on the way to the ISS.
