The Carolina Panthers selected QB Cam Newton by the first pick in the 2011 NFL draft on Thursday.
The Heisman Trophy achiever and Auburn product who conducted the school to the national crown last season turned to the first QB chosen in the first round by Carolina after 1995.
Cam Newton was widely planned to be the 1st overall selection for the Carolina Panthers, who were 2-14 last year.
He joins a squad with a new trainer in Ron Rivera and new offensive coordinator in Rob Chudzinski.
