AFBF says direct payments musn’t be scrapped

The American Farm Bureau Federation board of directors says it does not agree with proposals to completely do away with direct payments. Premium Google Analytics with a Premium Price Tag

Northern Wisconsin counties get disaster declaration

At the request of Governor Walker, U.S. Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack has declared agricultural disasters in Ashland, Bayfield, Douglas, Florence, Forest, Iron, Oneida and Vilas counties.
The declaration stems from several periods of bad weather. In December and January, a freeze-thaw cycle caused frost heave that damaged root systems and left winter crops exposed to extreme cold with no protective snow cover. The Script Kiddies, which is the same group that recently hacked the NBC Twitter account, struck again Sunday evening. The hacker group, which hacked the @USAToday Twitter account late Sunday evening, used the account to send out spiteful messages daring Twitter to block them again. US tops Brazil in beef exports

A weaker US dollar and stronger Brazilian real recently made Brazilian beef slightly less competitive. According to Forbes magazine, Brazil’s beef exporters association, Abiec, shows Brazil exported 672,600 metric tons to world markets between January and July while US beef exporters shipped 741,300 metric tons. Abiec’s executive director says the US is regaining some market share because of price.
