Russia eyes greater meat self sufficiency

It appears there are further roadblocks to getting agriculture trade with Russia up to its 2008 peak of $2 billion. Scott Reynolds, the United States’ agriculture trade counselor to Russia, says the tough global economy brought that trade figure down to $1.5 billion in 2009. Then in 2010, for eight months Russia cut off the flow of U.S. poultry products going into their country. That action limited agriculture trade from the U.S. to Russia last year to about $1 billion.
