Food prices increased 0.5% in August

Food prices increased 0.5 percent from July to August and are running 4.5 percent higher for the year. The latest USDA Consumer Price Index shows beef prices increased 0.4 percent from July to August and are 10.4 percent above a year ago.
Pork was up 0.7 percent for the month and 7.5 percent for the year while poultry decreased 0.1 percent for the month but are 3.4 percent higher for the year. Egg prices increased 4.9 percent in August and are 14.5 percent above a year ago.
